Iran warns Ukraine of retaliation after deadly Caspian Sea strike

Iran has warned Ukraine of retaliation following a deadly attack on an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea on Saturday, which killed one sailor and injured several others. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called the attack a "violation of the United Nations Charter" and stated it "cannot go unanswered," accusing Israel of provoking the incident. Ukraine, however, claimed it targeted a Russian warship and vessels involved in transporting Iranian-linked military cargo. Ebrahim Azizi, head of Iran's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, warned, "Ukraine, too, may soon come to understand that Iran does not let actions go unanswered." Iran has summoned Ukraine’s charge d’affaires in Tehran to protest the "hostile and criminal act." Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed successful long-range strikes in the Caspian Sea against vessels used in military cargo shipments involving Iran and a warship, also accusing Russia of supplying military support to Iran.
