Toronto police probe suspected antisemitic attacks on Jewish bagel chain

Toronto Police are investigating suspected antisemitic attacks after two locations of the Jewish-owned Kiva's Bagel Bar chain had windows shattered overnight between Saturday and Sunday. One location at Yonge Street and St. Clair Avenue showed evidence of gunfire, including a bullet hole, while another on Steeles Avenue West near Bathurst Street had a shattered window but no evidence of a firearm. Police are treating these as suspected hate-motivated crimes, with no arrests made yet. Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow condemned the attacks as “vile and unacceptable,” stating, “There is no place for hate in Toronto.” Noah Shack, CEO of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA), expressed concern about a potential escalation of violence against Jewish institutions.
