Attacker shouting ‘allahu akbar’ stabs Jewish man in NYC

On Thursday afternoon, a 51-year-old man identified as Raul Morales stabbed two individuals, one Jewish and one Asian, in separate attacks on New York City's Upper West Side. The Jewish victim was reportedly wearing a kippah, and the assailant shouted "allahu akbar" during the attack. Both victims, aged 57 and 50, were stabbed in the torso with a screwdriver and are in stable condition. The NYPD is investigating the incident as a potential hate crime, with mental health also considered a factor. The attacks occurred on Tisha B'av, a solemn day in the Jewish calendar. New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin stated, "The fear in the Jewish community is real." This incident follows a recent surge in antisemitic hate crimes in NYC, which account for 55% of all hate crimes in the city this year.
