Israel tests AI-powered drone system for rapid wildfire detection

Israel has successfully tested an AI-powered drone system for rapid wildfire detection, a joint initiative by the National Security Ministry, Innovation Authority, Technion, Israel Fire and Rescue Authority, and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). The system, utilizing IAI's APUS 25 tactical drone with VTOL capabilities, day/night cameras, and infrared sensors, can detect and locate simulated fires within minutes. The drone's AI and spectral algorithms analyze imagery in real-time, pinpointing fire locations and alerting command centers. The APUS 25's internal combustion engine allows for continuous flights of up to five hours. Yaron Shein, from the National Security Ministry, stated this is "another step in promoting advanced technological capabilities for security and emergency organizations," aiming to improve detection, situational awareness, and response times.
